What Are Journey Groups And Why Are They Important?

In times of need and fun, Journey groups are your source of support and friendship. They are a key to developing connections with those who share your interests or people who are dealing with similar life issues. Groups are the heartbeat of Journey Church. They are where real relationships take place and people of all generations, cultures, and backgrounds gather together. These groups meet in various locations around the city, volunteer during worship services or gather to impact their community.  Journey groups are a great way to get closer to God, care for one another, and meet new people.

The variety groups reflect the people of Journey Church and continue to change and develop with the interests and needs of the people.

What Are The Core Elements Of Journey Groups About?

Connecting:

Groups are an opportunity, place to develop real relationships with people who share similar passions and interests. It’s an opportunity for people to find a starting point for developing what we hope might be lifelong friendships. Like the 1980’s sitcom “Cheers” theme song, they are a place “Where Everybody Knows Your Name”

Caring:

Groups are an extension of Journey’s pro-active care system and are a place where people can support one another through life’s struggles. We believe that many emotional, spiritual and physical needs can be met without direct support from the pastoral staff.

Reaching Out (Evangelism):

Some people are more comfortable being a part of a small group setting rather than attending the Church’s weekend service. Groups can be a safe place to bring people who are far from God where they can experience an example of what life as a believer is about.

Growing Spiritually:

Groups are a great place for believers to learn to deepen their abilities in ministry and spiritual gifts. Facilitators and participants have the opportunity to use their heart, skills, and abilities in a supportive environment where they can make a difference in the lives of others.

When Can I join One?

New and reoccurring groups meet three (3) semesters each year:  spring, summer, and fall. Most groups are open to new members throughout the semester and you don’t have to wait until a semester starts to be a part of a group).

To find a group that fits you, contact the facilitator of the group you are interested in, and get involved! A group directory in print can be found at our “Welcome Center” or online at: http://journeychurch.org/connect/journey-groups/

Where Do They Meet?

Groups meet in various locations throughout the city. Most groups meet in homes although several meet at local businesses, parks, restaurants or at the church facility.

Who Can Participate?

Groups are open to everyone in the community. You don’t have to actively attend Journey to participate in a group.

When Do They Meet?

Groups meet at various times and days each week. There are groups that meet in the daytime and others that meet in the evenings. Check out the list of groups to see what day and time best fits your schedule.
