21 Days Of Prayer & Fasting

21 Days of Prayer and Fasting
The next 21 days will be an exciting time for the people of Journey Church as we will be undertaking our 4th 21 day season of prayer and fasting. The primary objective of the fast is for us to gain a
greater level of intimacy with God as we start the New Year. There is no doubt that there will be many other spiritual and physical benefits to this undertaking. Fasting simply defined means abstaining from
food for a spiritual purpose. During this season believers are encouraged to substitute times of eating with times of prayer.
It’s important to note that fasting is not something reserved for the spiritual elite. God intended for it to be part of the ordinary Christian life as defined in Matt 6. The discipline of fasting releases anointing, the favor, and the blessing of God in the life of a Christian. So if you are not content to go through 2012 as if it were any other year, then this time of fasting is for you. Twenty one days might sound intimidating, but there are many different ways you can fast. The pages that follow will highlight some of the different types of fast you might undertake. The key is to jump in and do it. It’s life changing.
Some things to consider:
Motives? The primary biblical motivation for fasting is growing closer to God. So set you heart on this.
What specific needs are you fasting for? While out motive is to connect with God, it’s ok to enter a fast believing God for some needed changes in your life.
a. Does your marriage need healing?
b. Do you need additional direction or wisdom from God?
c. Do you need freedom from an addition?
What type of fast is for you? (We will build on these fasts and their purposes in upcoming messages)
a. Total Fast – Abstain from food and water. Usually for 1-3 days max.
b. Juice Fast – Abstain from food, but drink juices for 1 or more days.
c. Partial Fast/Daniel Fast (21 Days) – Drink water and eat vegetables.
d. Consult a physician before undertaking any season of fasting.
Suggested Fasting Schedule:
Set a goal as doing the Daniel fast for 21 days. (See - http://danielfast.wordpress.com/)
Step out and faith and each week do at least 1-3 days of fasting with no food. Especially try to do a 3 day fast leading into the final weekend of the fast. You might even skip a meal a few days a week
on Daniel fast days and set aside that time to spend in prayer.
